While growing up on what we referred to as “The Back Road” but is now known as Hickory Trail in Barryville there was a discarded millstone apparatus in the woods within 500 feet from our house. It had been tossed there in such a way that the axle was on an incline and the circular millstone rested on the ground, but somewhat vertically. I never knew where the millstone had been used, but it’s fair to guess that it was this mill.
However for little boys schooled on Flash Gordon and early science fiction this millstone and axle looked exactly like a rocket ship in flight and provided many hours of imaginative fun. Free of course!
What beautiful serene pictures. I don’t comment much but I truly enjoy your posts and the comments from your readers. Thanks so much for your dedication.
