I, too, walked across that bridge many times. My grandparents lived in the shadow of the bridge. My uncles owned the grocery store. My mom worked in the post office in the 40’s.
I remember crossing this bridge when I was a little girl in the 1960’s. A little old man would collect 10 cents, pull away the string “gate”and let us go across the rickety bridge. It was always scary, but a trip up state was not complete until we went across the Roebling Bridge!
